Litchborough is a lovely village located in South Northamptonshire. It is situated in a largely agricultural area of unspoilt, rolling countryside and the village buildings are predominantly constructed from local Northamptonshire stone.
Approximately 250 people live in the village and unlike previous generations, very few villagers now earn their living from the land, instead today’s villagers derive their income from a wide variety of professions and activities such as:
| Information Systems |
Retail |
Food |
| Journalism |
Manufacturing |
Communications |
| Transport |
Administration |
Financial services |
This wide variety of occupations means that villagers frequently travel to work in locations such as Northampton, Banbury, Milton Keynes, London or even further afield, reflecting today’s modern trend of upwardly mobile employment.
Layout
The village is located on cross roads between the Banbury to Northampton road and the Farthingstone to Towcester road.
Litchborough is centred around the village war memorial, green, church and public house. The actual layout of the village has changed little since the Second World War, however many of the older buildings have been demolished and others converted for alternative use.
Amenities
Reflecting the widespread car ownership of today, Litchborough no longer has a post office, general store or other shops. However it does possess a friendly public house, The Old Red Lion, an Indian Takeaway, a beautiful 14th Century Church (St. Martins) and a Methodist Chapel. In addition there is a village hall, a small industrial park, a number of farms and some beautiful walks and public footpaths. The village also has a Saturday’s only bus between Banbury and Northampton.
Litchborough also is home to a fine Manor House dating from 17th Century which is set in magnificent gardens. Today Litchborough Hall is home to the respected Heygates family who are strong supporters of the local community.
